Russia once again appears among the main buyers of Brazilian beef
In the last May, Russia moved from 26th to the 8th place in the ranking of the largest buyers of Brazilian beef. According to the Brazilian Beef Exporters Association (Abiec), in this period, the Russians bought 7,362 tons and the revenue obtained by Brazil with these sales was of US$ 24.2 million.
From January to May, shipments to Russia grew 137% in volume and 140% in sales compared to the same period last year.
Before China and Hong Kong, now major importers of Brazilian beef, Russia has led the ranking of protein importers with 150,000 tons per year. The decrease in exports from Brazil to the Russians happened after an embargo imposed at the end of 2017, due to the presence of the additive ractopamine, approved by the World Health Organization, but not authorized by the Russian government. Restrictions began to be withdrawn in November 2018.
